Richard Pride Sundgren was born on November 18, 1925 to William C. Sundgren, Sr.
and Edna May Pride. He had one brother, William, and one sister, Elizebeth. He was born in New York City and listed only as Baby in the hospital records.
He grew up primarily in Windham, ME. with his mother's best friend, Isabelle Pride who had married Edna's brother, Porter Pride. He grew up there because he was a problem child that didn't really like to stay with his family in New York City. He preferred living with the upstairs family in the apartment building that the two families lived in.
He always did give off the impression that he was a stray looking for a home. When he was sent to Maine, he settled into farm life with his Uncle Porter and Aunt Isabelle, and did quite well being away from his birth family. If he could be compared to any book character, it would be Huckleberry Finn. He had a way of getting others to do things for him. He would rather be fishing, or driving the farm truck through the fields at 10 years old. That's right, he drove a truck when he was 10. Couldn't even reach the peddle without some sort of wedge to help him.
More to write later. Just wanted to get this in as a placer. Will be awhile before I update.
